A late goal gave the Fontbonne University women's soccer team its first loss of the season at home as they fell to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology last night 1-0. The Griffins fell to 2-2-2 on the season while while RHIT improved to 4-1-1.
After a scoreless first half, Fontbonne controlled much of the action in the second half. The Griffins however were unable to breakdown RHIT's defense despite firing six shots. RHIT scored on their only shot of the second half as they took a 1-0 in the 84th minute. The RHIT defense made that lead stand up as they turned away a good Griffin scoring chance in the final minute of play.
For the game, Fontbonne outshot RHIT 11-5. Senior Erica Kaiping, sophomore Lyndsey Godier and freshman Savannah Davis had two shots apiece in the game. Both teams earned 3 corner kicks apiece. Fontbonne will return to the pitch Friday night as they play Coe College at 6 pm at St. Louis Soccer Park.
