St. Louis-Fontbonne sophomore Monica Jane Lopez scored the game winning goal, as the Griffins defeated Buena Vista University 1-0 Sunday afternoon. Although the Griffins outshot the Beavers 12-5, they couldn't net a second goal, relying on a solid defensive effort as they improved to 3-2-3 on the season.
Fontbonne senior midfielder Kelly Lange led the Griffins with three shots on goal, while junior goalkeeper Meggin Werner recorded two saves in the game to record her fourth shutout of the season. The Griffins stingy defense has allowed just four goals in eight games to start the season.
Fontbonne returns to the pitch Wednesday afternoon at 3pm as they travel to Oakland City University.
