St. Louis- Fontbonne came out strong to begin St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play as the Griffins took on the Iowa Wesleyan University Tigers. Fontbonne held the upper hand the entire game, finally winning 8-0. The Griffins are now 5-2-3 overall and 1-0 in SLIAC play.
The win marks sophomore goalkeeper Haley Hopkins' first shutout of the season as she recorded two saves on the afternoon.
Fontbonne's 30 shots compared to the Tigers' three, secured the win. Senior Kelly Lange scored twice while Erica Kaiping, Kayla Thorp, Kelly Hobbs, Heather Wiegmann, Taylor McGowen and Monica Lopez recorded one goal apiece.
Fontbonne returns to the pitch Saturday at MacMurray for an approximate 3pm start time.
