On a cold, wet evening in Greenville, Illinois the Fontbonne University women's soccer team battled Greenville College and the elements to earn a critical 1-1 tie. The Griffins improved to 9-5-4 overall and 5-2-1 in the SLIAC.
Fontbonne fell behind in the 20th minute as Greenville took advantage of a defensive miscue to make it 1-0.
After a sloppy first half, Fontbonne picked up their play in the second half. The Griffins were rewarded for their pressure early in the second half as junior Kayla Thorpe scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 47th minute. Fontbonne outshot Greenville 8-3 in the second half but couldn't find the back of the net again and the game went to overtime.
In overtime, Fontbonne held Greenville without a shot but couldn't make good on one of their four shots and the game ended in a draw.
Fontbonne will return to the pitch Saturday as they host Blackburn College at 3 pm in their regular season finale. The Griffins will honor four seniors prior to Saturday's kick-off.
