Griffins win SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Award, six players honored
For the first time in school history, the Fontbonne University women's soccer program received the Sportsmanship Award from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC). The award is part of several post-season accolades the women's soccer program and its players received recently.
Coming off a 10-6-4 season with a 6-2-1 SLIAC record and a sixth straight appearance in the SLIAC Tournament, six Griffins received SLIAC honors. Seniors Ava Johnson and Kelly Lange, and sophomore Paige Pfankuch were named to the SLIAC First Team All-Conference. Johnson helped anchor the Griffins defense from the centerback position while Lange finished fourth on the team in points with four goals and two assists. Johnson was also named to the SLIAC All-Tournament Team. Pfankuch also helped anchor the Griffins defense while finishing third on the team in points with four goals and five assists.
Freshman Kelly Hobbs and junior Kayla Thorpe were named to the Second Team All-Conference. Hobbs was a big presence for the Griffins midfield while Thorpe led the team in scoring with nine goals and five assists.
Junior defender Ali Weber was named to the SLIAC All-Tournament Team as well as the All-Sportsmanship Team.
