St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne University women's soccer saw their regular season play come to an end Saturday as the Griffins fell to Webster University 2-0. The Gorloks took the regular season SLIAC title, going undefeated with a perfect 9-0 record. The Griffins finish in second place with a 7-1-1 conference record and went 15-3-2 during the regular season.
The Gorloks scored on a soft goal four and a half minutes into the game and secured their second goal 12 minutes later.
Junior Natalie Sipole was critical for the Griffins in the midfield, destroying multiple Gorlok offensive breaks.
Fontbonne goalkeeper Tayler Pulvirenti suffered the loss. Pulvirenti exited the game with a shoulder injury at halftime, which she incurred early in the contest. In the second half, Fontbonnne senior goalie Meggin Werner stepped up her game, eliminating several Webster threats.
During the game, Webster outshot Fontbonne 13-6. Both teams recorded five corner kicks.
Fontbonne will host #3 Principia College in the semifinal round of the SLIAC Tournament. Fontbonne defeated Principia 1-0 under cold and wet conditions on October 22nd. The specific date and time will be released soon.
