Memphis, Tenn. - Fontbonne women's soccer sophomore defender Maddie Redohl scored the Griffins' first goal of 2015 in the fifth minute of action. Fontbonne earned a corner kick and after several Fontbonne scoring attempts, Redohl found herself with the ball and blasted the first goal of the contest.
With temperatures in the upper nineties, Southwestern tied the game 20 minutes later. With the heat bearing down, neither team was able to score in the second half, sending the game into overtime. As the second overtime was winding down, Fontbonne passed the ball up the fall sideline where junior Ashlynn Reiter was able to track it down and keep the ball from going out-of-bounds for a goal kick. Reiter's cross was perfect as sophomore Ellen Weaver lunged forward for the winning header. Fontbonne recorded their first victory of 2015 in the 116th minute.
Senior goalkeeper Tayler Pulvirenti was hot in goal, stopping five shot attempts, including a one-on-one attempt directly in front of the goal.
Fontbonne will bear the heat once more tomorrow at noon, going up against University of the Ozarks.
