Columbia, Mo. - Fontbonne women's soccer recorded their second shutout of the season as the Griffins blank Stephens College 6-0.The Griffins are now 2-3-1 this year.
Fontbonne scored early when senior Natalie Sipole crossed to the middle where Maddie Tague netted her first collegiate goal. Five minutes later freshman Meredith Wendt assisted sophomore Ellen Weaver whose goal came from the center as well.
Freshman Jacey Pate entered the game and scored two goals off assists from Sipole and Linsey Klein. Sipole sent a long ball up the sideline that Pate chased down and Klein assisted from the center of the field as Pate scored from five yards out.
Klein then ended the half with her first goal of the season. She stole the ball off of a Star defender and placed the ball in the back of the net.
Fontbonne was held scoreless in the second half until the 71st minute when senior Savannah Davis placed a corner right to Klein near the goal line. Klein footed the ball in high for the sixth and final goal of the contest.
Pate leads the Griffins with five goals on the season while Davis is the top assister with three assists.
Fontbonne outshot Stephens 33-7 and held a 7-0 corner kick advantage.
Fontbonne plays Saturday, September 17 at Knox College for a 3:30 p.m. start in their first of three games on the road. The Griffins will host their first home contest against Oakland City on September 29th.
