St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne University women's soccer continued their St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference sweep with a 2-0 victory over Greenville College Saturday afternoon. The Griffins, who are 8-5-1 overall, are undefeated in conference with a 4-0 record and have won seven of their last nine games. Six of those seven wins have been shutouts.
Injuries keep forcing the Griffins to shake up their formations, which hasn't hindered their performances as of late.
Junior Meredith Wendt sent a pass up the middle 40 yards past Greenville's defensive end where sophomore Ellen Weaver jumped ahead of the defensive and chased the ball down. Picking it up at the 20 yard line she slipped it past Greenville's Hope Brakenhoff who slid at the top of the box towards Weaver to try and cut off the pass.Weaver's game-winner was her sixth goal of the season.
Wendt then scored the Griffins' second goal at the end of the 72nd minute. Junior Linsey Klein secured possession of the ball in the far right corner when she sent it to the middle of the field where Wendt one-stepped for her ninth goal of the season from 15 yards out.
Brakenhoff stopped eight in net for Greenville as the Griffins outshot the Panthers 19-4.
Fontbonne travels to Eureka Tuesday and Blackburn on Saturday as they look to keep their undefeated conference record intact. The Griffins return to St. Louis for action at Webster on Satuday, Oct. 22nd.
