Eureka, Ill. - Fontbonne women's soccer went on a scoring frenzy today with 12 goals to defeat Eureka College 12-2. The Griffins are now 9-5-1 on the season and 5-0 after their third consecutive win and seventh win in eight games.
Paving the way for Fontbonne were Meredith Wendt, Jacey Pate and Savannah Davis. Wendt, the team's leading scorer notched a hat trick while Pate, who started off as the team's leading scorer, has come back from an injury and scored two goals and one assist against the host Red Devils. Davis, a midfielder, assisted three times before recording two goals in the second half. Wendt now has 12 goals and four assists for the year as Pate now has seven goals and two assists. Davis now has six assists and three goals on the season.
Senior midfielder Natalie Sipole assisted twice with freshman Casey Linsenbardt adding two goals for the Griffins. Also assisting twice in the afternoon was Linsey Klein with Ellen Weaver scoring a lone goal as well as an assist. Sipole leads Fontbonne on the season with seven assists. Weaver is second on the team in points with seven goals and three assists.
Eureka scored in the third minute but the Griffins scored seven to close out the half and added another five in the second half for 12 straight goals. Eureka closed out the game with a goal in the 84th minute.
Fontbonne is on the road Saturday Oct. 15th for a 1 p.m. contest at Blackburn. The Griffins will look to continue their win streak and remain unbeaten in conference play.
