MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa.—The Fontbonne University women's soccer team cruised to its fifth overall and second St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) win on the year after they defeated Iowa Wesleyan, 9-1.
The Griffins (5-8; 2-1 SLIAC), dominated from start-to-finish as they outshot the Tigers 32-2 in the 70:00 minute game. Karlie Peth led the way with her first collegiate hat-trick, while Ellen Weaver contributed two goals of her own.
Jacey Pate, Meredith Wendt, Linsey Klein and Casey Linsenbardt all found twine as well. In goal, Mary Beers got the win after making one save.
It didn't take long for the Griffins to get on the board with Peth scoring her first of the day in the fifth minute off an assist from Wendt. Less than a minute later, Peth tacked on an assist as she found Pate who buried her shot in, her fourth on the year, to make it 2-0.
The scoring frenzy continued in the 7th minute as Wendt scored an unassisted goal to make it 3-0. It was all Fontbonne the rest of the way with Peth (11th), Ellen Weaver (19th, 21st), Klein (27th) and Lisenbardt (35th), all scoring to give the visitors a commanding 8-0 advantage.
Prior to the horn sounding for halftime, Iowa Wesleyan got on the board thanks to Grace Alongi's unassisted goal.
However, in the second half, Peth capped off her incredible day with her third goal in the 47th minute, giving her seven goals on the season, to make it a 9-1 final.
The team will be back in action this Thursday as they'll pay a visit to Greenville. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
