ST. LOUIS, Mo.— Fontbonne University women's soccer player, Meredith Wendt, becomes the first Griffins player to be named onto the CoSIDA Academic All-District 5 First Team, announced today by CoSIDA.
In order to be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at her current institution. Also, nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed.
Wendt, a Troy, Illinois, native, wins the award for the first time in her career as she'll graduate with a degree in Psychology, to go along with her 3.94 gpa. On the field, Wendt closed out the 2017 campaign with new career-high marks in goals (16), assists (11) and points (43).
In two seasons with Fontbonne, she finishes with 30 goals in 41 games and 15 assists for 75 points.
Wendt will now advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be announced in December.
