ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released the 2018 Women's Soccer Preseason Poll and the Griffins are picked to finish third.
Webster, the reigning SLIAC Tournament Champion, hold the top spot with eight first-place votes and 80 total points overall. Greenville slides ahead of the Griffins in second with a first-place vote and 67 points. Westminster enters in fourth with 57 points, while Spalding rounds out the top-five at 55 points.
The Griffins, who are coming off its second straight SLIAC Championship game appearance, will be looking to build off last year's success and replace the likes of Meredith Wendt, Maddie Redohl and Ellen Weaver, all of whom picked up All-Conference honors in 2017.
This season, the team will have familiarity in net with Makayla Hussong, Mary Beers and Taylor Skaggs all returning. The trio combined for 89 saves and a .742 save percentage in 21 contests.
Seniors Daniele Caruso and Maddie Tague also return after each of them set new career-highs in games started, while combining for two goals and seven assists.
The team gets its 2018 campaign underway on August 31st from Salem, Ore., when they'll take on Willamette University.
