Griffins Extend Shutout Streak Out To Five; Neal Nets Game-Winner

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Fontbonne University women's soccer team recorded its fifth straight shutout win on Tuesday afternoon after defeating Spalding, 1-0.
The Griffins (7-5-1; 4-0 SLIAC), outshot the Golden Eagles 17-11 in the win. Molly Kovarik and Maddie Tague tied with five shots each.
Caroline Neal netted her fourth on the year and first game-winner with Fontbonne. In net, Makayla Hussong improved to 4-3-1 as she made 10 saves.
The Golden Eagles (5-4-1; 2-2 SLIAC), were led by Kelsie Huffman in the shot department with four. In net, Ashlee Wilson made six saves on seven shots on goal.
It didn't take long for the Griffins to get on the board with Neal scoring an unassisted goal at the 3:40 mark to make it a 1-0 lead.
Spalding's offense picked up over the next 10:00 minutes with a 4-1 shot advantage, though Hussong came away with four saves.
The Griffins went on to total eight shots the rest of the way, while the defense held the Golden Eagles to just two.
In the second half, the Golden Eagles had five shots all on goal, however, Hussong stopped each of them to secure the one-goal win.
Fontbonne returns to action this Saturday on the road at Blackburn. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m.
