Nine Griffins Pick Up SLIAC Postseason Accolades
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released the 2018 All-Conference Teams and the Griffins came away with nine honorees. Also, it’s the first time eight of the selectees have been named to the All-Conference squad.
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released the 2018 All-Conference Teams and the Griffins came away with nine honorees. Also, it's the first time eight of the selectees have been named to the All-Conference squad.
Molly Kovarik and Daniele Caruso were named to the First Team, while Hannah Andrzejewski, Tori Harris, and Makayla Hussong were named to the Second Team. Rebecca Bass, Maddie Tague, and Rylee Stafford earned Third Team honors. Kelli Kinnikin, meanwhile, was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.
Kovarik, a sophomore, was a threat up top all season for the Griffins. She totaled three hat-tricks and finished with a team-high 16 goals on the year, which ranks her in a tie for second with Molly Prado (1995) and Meredith Wendt (2017). Her 36 points place her in a tie for sixth overall with Jerri Nahlik (1996).
Caruso, a St. Louis, Mo., native, earns SLIAC All-Conference honors for the first time in her career. She concluded the 2018 year with a career-high four goals and 10 assists for 18 points.
Caruso also led the back line that recorded nine straight shutouts for the Griffins. The senior finishes her four-year career with nine goals and 18 assists for 36 points in 78 games.
Hussong, a Florissant, Mo., native, who was named to the SLIAC Third Team last season, earns a spot on the Second Team after going 5-4-2 in 2018, totaling a career-high 72 saves, a 1.33 goals against average and five shutouts.
Her five shutouts rank her fifth all-time in a single season, while the 72 saves place her in eighth.
Andrzejewski, a St. Charles, Mo., native, also earns All-Conference honors for the first time. She ended the season with two goals and four points.
Along with Caruso and Andrzejewski, Harris was a focal point of the back line for the Griffins that allowed just 21 goals on the year. The Lake St. Louis, Mo., native, netted her lone goal on the year in a 2-0 win over Blackburn on Oct. 13th.
Bass, a Florissant, Mo., native, made her mark in her first season with Fontbonne. The junior ended the year with nine goals and tied Caruso with a team-high 10 assists.
She collected her first hat-trick with Fontbonne against Iowa Wesleyan on Oct. 20th. She and Caruso are tied for sixth all-time with 10 assists in a single season.
Tague, meanwhile, led the Griffins in the midfield throughout the year. The St. Louis, Mo., native, finished with one goal and three assists for five points. She also recorded a career-high 41 shots.
Stafford was another member of the Griffins back line that was stout throughout the season. She set new career-high marks in games started (18), goals (one) assists (three), and points (eight). Stafford scored her first collegiate goal in a 9-0 win over Eureka on Sept. 29th.
Kinnikin is named to the All-Sportsmanship Team for the first time in her career. She joins the entire back line being honored by the SLIAC. The Belleville, Ill., native, started in a career-high 18 games for the Griffins.
