How It Happened
It didn't take long for the Griffins to get on the board with Kierstyn Weaver finding Molly Kovarik and the junior did the rest, scoring her fifth on the year in the seventh minute to give the visitor's a 1-0 lead.
Greenville, though responded six minutes later with Molly McDonnell netting an unassisted goal, her second on the year, to tie the game at 1-1 in the 14th minute.
However, in the 20th minute, a loose ball went off a Greenville player and into its own net to give Fontbonne the 2-1 advantage. The two teams continued its back-and-forth play up until the 37th minute when the Panthers struck again on Kiera Coleman's goal.
It looked to be as if it'd be a tie game heading into halftime, however, the Panthers had other plans. With 24.0 seconds left, Ellie Cummins got the ball outside the box and she lifted her shot into the top right-corner of the net to give Greenville the 3-2 lead at the break.
In the second half, the two teams tied in the shot department with four each through the first 30:00 minutes of action. Then, in the 73rd minute, Weaver was able to find twine for the fifth time this year, scoring the equalizer for Fontbonne.
As the clock continued to tick away, the Griffins upped the pressure in the final minutes. Sam Amezcua saw her shot saved in the 86th minute. Rebecca Bass followed with an attempt on the far post after a cross, but her attempt went just wide.
Finally, Kovarik had the ball in the box with seconds remaining, though her turnaround shot was saved by Marjory Coates to force OT.
In the first OT, the Panthers outshot Fontbonne 2-0 but neither were the game-winner and it was off to a second OT. In the final 10:00 minutes, the Panthers owned a 3-2 shot advantage over Fontbonne, but only one landed on net and the game concluded in a 3-3 tie.
