Women's Soccer Picked Third In Preseason Poll, Five Players Make SLIAC Watch List
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released its Women’s Soccer Preseason Poll and the Griffins come in at No. 3.
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released its Women's Soccer Preseason Poll and the Griffins come in at No. 3.
Webster holds the top spot with 45 points and three first place votes. Greenville edges out Fontbonne for second with 43 points and four first place votes, while Westminster rounds out the top four.
The Griffins are coming off a 2019 season where they went 11-6-4 overall and 6-1-2 in conference play. They advanced to the SLIAC Tournament as the No. 3 seed but fell 2-1 against Greenville to conclude its season.
This year, the SLIAC placed Kierstyn Weaver, Molly Kovarik, Alexandria Smith, Caroline Neal, and Krystal Kohenskey on the Watch List.
Weaver, a Florissant, Mo., native, was named to the SLIAC Third Team in 2019 after setting new career-highs with eight goals and 12 assists for 28 points. Kovarik was named to the SLIAC First Team after totaling 10 goals and three assists for 23 points. She ranks eighth all-time at Fontbonne with 26 goals and needs 23 more to become the all-time leader.
Smith, meanwhile, was named to the First Team as well after appearing in 19 games on defense and recording two assists. Neal had a breakout 2019 campaign where she was named to the SLIAC Second Team after scoring a career-high 14 goals and adding five assists for a career-best 33 points.
The Griffins added another conference player to the roster where they welcomed Krystal Kohenskey to the fold. Kohenskey ranked second in the SLIAC in 2019 after totaling 17 goals for 35 points at MacMurray. She was named to the SLIAC All-Conference Second Team.
The team brings back Mary Beers, Claire Dalton, Caroline Reifsteck, Libby Bateman, Haley Buscher, Tori Harris, and Rylee Stafford. They'll also welcome in Adrian Bell, Grace Trendle, Hannah Simpson, Caitlyn Smith, Riley Maag, and Taylor Hawkes to the program.
