FULTON, Mo.— The Fontbonne University women's soccer team collected its third shutout in its last five as they stayed perfect in SLIAC action with a 4-0 win over Westminster.
Game Breakdown
After a 3-0 shot advantage, the Griffins broke the scoreless tie in the 34th minute. Off a corner kick, Libby Bateman's header was stopped at the near post, but Caroline Neal was there to score her eighth on the season giving Fontbonne a 1-0 lead at the break.
In the second half, the Griffins extended its lead out to 2-0. Caitlyn Smith dribbled the ball up midfield and passed it up the right side for the speedy Molly Kovarik. The Festus, Mo., native, was all alone and scored to the short side past Megan Davidson for her 11th on the season.
Kovarik and the Griffins weren't done there with the senior scoring her second of the game off an assist from Kierstyn Weaver in the 77th minute. Riley Maag netted her second of the season off a loose ball from a corner kick in the 89th minute securing the shutout win.
Fontbonne Leaders
- The Griffins dominated with a 17-1 shot advantage.
- Kovarik's two goal performance gives her 48 in her career. She's now tied for first in program history with Kendra Schilli.
- Neal moved up to fifth place in program history with 76 points.
- In net, Mary Beers inches closer to the program record in shutouts with her 19th in career.
