Women's Soccer Battles Spartans To 1-1 Draw

ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University women's soccer team opened its 2022 campaign with a 1-1 tie against Missouri Baptist.

The scoring opened in the sixth minute for the Spartans with Morgan Hollenbeck's cross finding Gianna Gore and she headed it in giving MBU the early advantage.

Over the next 22 minutes, the Griffins held a 3-2 shot advantage, but the Spartans maintained the one goal advantage.

Prior to halftime, though the Spartans were called for a foul in the box in the 42nd minute allowing Fontbonne a penalty kick. Krystal Kohenskey stepped up and buried her shot into the bottom left corner tying the game.

Fontbonne held a 5-3 shot advantage in the second half and had its best chance in the 70th minute. Alyson Carroll's header off a corner from Kohenskey was saved by a diving Hannah Harrison at the goal line keeping it a 1-1 game.

The Griffins had two more attempts prior to the end of regulation, but Harrison saved them both securing the tie.
