ST. LOUIS, Mo.—For the first time in program history, the Fontbonne University women's soccer team earned a 1-1 draw against No. 11 WashU on Monday.
The Bears struck first in the fifth minute when Gaelen Clayton came down the right side and crossed the ball over for Maggie Brett who buried in the one-timer.
Fontbonne had a couple of late scoring chances coming from Krystal Kohenskey and Libby Bateman, but Sidney Conner stopped both attempts keeping it a 1-0 game.
In the second half, the Griffins were able to break through. Caroline Neal received a pass from Kohenskey and she bent her shot from just outside the box off the far post and in.
The Bears picked up the pressure with a 4-2 shot advantage the rest of the way, however, the Griffins defense and Mary Beers stood tall securing the tie.
Notes
- The draw for Fontbonne is the first in 23 all-time matches against the Bears.
- Neal's goal was first on the season and 34th in career.
- Kohenskey's assist was her 28th in career.
- Beers accounted for five saves.
