Volleyball defeats the Eagles in three straight sets
St. Louis- Fontbonne University women's volleyball team scored their second win in as many games tonight against the Robert Morris University Eagles of Peoria. Fontbonne ups their win count to 4-8 overall. The Eagles fall to 1-12.
Robert Morris again started out strong taking a commanding 5-0 lead in the second set. With the score 12-6 Eagles, Fontbonne head coach Meredith Heater decides a timeout is needed to regroup the Griffins. Both teams battle back and forth for a score of 21-13. The Griffins decide to pull themselves together and rally to score the next five points with junior Taryn Ballmann serving to close in on the Eagles 21-18. After several kills and attack errors, the Griffins come-from-behind win of the second set 25-23 sends fans roaring into the third set.
Fontbonne was able to dominate the final set of the match defeating the Eagles 25-14. Fontbonne freshman Meghan Chafin recorded her first ace in her collegiate debut. Also coming into the game for the first time was freshman Carissa Dodge, recording her first career block assist alongside Ballmann to end the set.
Fontbonne ended the match with 33 kills, 29 assists, 41 digs, 7 service aces and 7 total blocks.
The Griffins travel down Big Bend Boulevard to conference rival Webster to play at Webster at 11am and Principia at 1pm.
