Red Lions pounce on Griffins 3-1
St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne University women's volleyball fell tonight to Lincoln Christian University (LCU) in four sets 18-25, 13-25, 25-21 and 16-25. The Griffins drop thier record to 13-15 on the year.
Both teams recorded similar statistics, with the Red Lions prevailing. Fontbonne's 43 kills were just 5 kills fewer and their 49 digs were 4 short of LCU's. In recent games, the Griffins had been serving the ball well, but tonight recorded just two aces with 12 service errors.
Red Lion Alicia Carson and Griffin Kersten McDonough duked it out at the net, with Carson edging McDonough 21-22 in kills on the night. Carson's .486 hitting average made her virtually unstoppable. Before tonight, McDonough was seventh in NCAA Division III players with 417 total kills. Three players from each team recorded double digit digs. Emily Merick was the only player to record a double-double (10 kills, 13 digs) during the match.
Fontbonne travels to Greenville College this Friday for a 7pm matchup. The Griffins return home on Tuesday for a 7pm start against Principia College.
