Elmhurst, Ill. - Opening up the Elmhurst College Invitational over Labor Day weekend, the Fontbonne women's volleyball team got out to a rocky start, falling to the No. 24-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in three sets. A couple of hours later the Griffins defeated North Park University 25-23 in the first set and 27-25 during the third round of competition. Ultimately, Fontbonne fell 3-2 after five sets.
On the day, junior Kersten McDonough completed eight sets of battling with 36 kills, 28 of which were against North Park. Maddie Stadler led Fontbonne in digs while junior setter Lynsey Wehrenberg tallied 38 assists.
Fontbonne returns to action tomorrow to conclude play at the Elmhurt Invitational.
