Griffins Overcome Injuries To Earn Two Victories Against Blackburn And IWU
MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa.—The Fontbonne University women’s volleyball team came away with two key conference wins at Iowa Wesleyan on Saturday against Blackburn and host IWU.

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa.—The Fontbonne University women's volleyball team came away with two key conference wins at Iowa Wesleyan on Saturday against Blackburn and host IWU.
Fontbonne University 3 Blackburn 1
The Griffins (6-13; 5-8 SLIAC), came away with the four set win (18-25, 25-21, 25-14, 25-23) against Blackburn after totaling 38 kills, a .164 hitting percentage and 89 digs.
Against Blackburn, Victoria Curtice rolled her ankle yesterday and she played through it but it got worse today. Conner Gray, however, went down with a rolled ankle as well and the only sub due to injuries was setter Abby Grumich.
Coach Meredith Heater put her in for Conner and the team went on to win the next three sets. Kristina Eason led the way with her 11 kills and 17 digs. Megan Schaller had herself a game with 34 assists, while Sarah Borgerding led with 23 digs.
Fontbonne 3 Iowa Wesleyan 1
Injuries continued against Iowa Wesleyan with Olivia Tallo rolling her ankle in the first set. Borgerding switched into a regular jersey and subbed in for Tallo.
Before the second set, Claire Sease changed into the libero jersey and with all the injuries compiled, the team went on to earn the next three sets despite having just seven girls.
FBU went on to total 40 kills, an impressive .203 hitting percentage and 92 digs. Eason had herself a night with a team-high 16 kills and 19 digs. Megan McKenzie also earned a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs. Schaller totaled a career-high 39 assists, while Borgerding led the defense with 20 digs.
The team will be back in action next Wednesday at home against Robert Morris-Springfield. First-serve goes up at 7 p.m.
