Women's Volleyball Tabbed For Fifth In The SLIAC Preseason Poll
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released the 2018 Women’s Volleyball Preseason Poll and the Griffins picked up 44 points for fifth place.
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released the 2018 Women's Volleyball Preseason Poll and the Griffins picked up 44 points for fifth place.
Westminster, who was the SLIAC Tournament Championship Runner-Up in 2017, owns the top spot with 78 points and six first-place votes. Greenville, the reigning SLIAC Champion, comes in at No. 2 with 69 points and two first-place votes.
Webster Gorloks slide in at No. 3 with two first-place votes of its own and 68 points overall, while Principia rounds out the top four totaling 58 points.
This year, the Griffins will return its entire roster from 2017 as they'll look to climb up the SLIAC standings under first-year head coach, Ryan LeGrand.
Kristina Eason will be a player to keep an eye-out-for this year. The senior was named to the All-Conference Third Team last season after posting a career-high 284 kills and 341 digs. She's just 194 kills and 282 digs away from reaching the 1,000-mark in each category.
Coach LeGrand will also have Victoria Curtice, Olivia Tallo, Emma Seiz, Megan McKenzie, and Abby Grumich back as he'll look to them for more contributions this year on both sides of the net.
Defensively, the Griffins compiled 1907 digs last year and that was seventh best all-time. Claire Sease returns for her sophomore season as she'll look to build off her team-high 359 digs, while Sarah Borgerding added 349 of her own.
The Griffins will welcome plenty of newcomers including Karsyn Kulick, Daisy Watkins, and transfer Maura Rabun to the roster as they'll look to step up and have an impactful 2018 season.
