ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This week sure was one for the books as last Thursday against UHSP, Riley Watson recorded a new career-high in assists (43) for the second time this season. It was just the beginning for her as she returned to the court yesterday and hit 1,000 career assists. Head Coach Jimmy Stika also went ahead and celebrated a significant personal milestone by winning his 100th career game.
The Griffins only lost one set in three matches. They swept the Eutectics last Thursday on the road, then two days later returned home to earn a four-set victory over MUW and then swept Spalding.
With these three wins on the week, Fontbonne improve their overall record to 10-5 and 6-1 in league play.
During the sweep over the Eutectics, the set scores were: 25-12, 25-21, 25-12. Kristen Kaempfe and Jordan Harpel led the Griffins in kills, 16 and 13, respectively. Riley Watson added 43 assists, which was a new career-high for her. Emma Harrop totaled 14 digs followed by Piper Fitzgerald with 10.
In the game against MUW, the set scores were: 25-16, 20-15, 25-18, and 25-12. Maura Oge had a dominating performance as she was one kill shy from a new career-high with 14. Kaempfe recorded a double-double with 15 digs and 12 kills. Harpel added 10 kills, while Fitzgerald added 10 digs. Libero Harrop totaled 14 digs as well. Watson had a total of 33 set assists.
The set scores against Spalding were: 25-16, 25-19, 27-25. Four Griffins scored double digits, with Oge having again another strong performance as she recorded 13 kills. Kellie Overturf scored seven points and had one block solo. Harrop added 20 digs, while Watson totaled 36 assists to reach 1,000 career assists. Maddie Bock added six digs in the match.

The Griffins will embark on a three-game road stretch starting at Blackburn on Wednesday, October 16 at 7 p.m. Then, they will travel to Lyon on Friday to face off against Lyon and Westminster. Game times are set for 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
