Cross Country competes at SLIAC Championships
Louisville, Ky. - The Fontbonne University cross country teams competed in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships today. This year Spalding University hosted the evnt at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park, the same site as the NCAA National Championships.
The course was set up for a women's 6k race followed by the men's 8k.
Crossing the finish line for the Griffins first was senior Jennie Stare. All six Fontbonne women finished within 10 spots. Katie and Collen Gosser finished in their respective orders, with one runner between Katie and Stare. Katie ran over a minute and a half PR with Colleen running over a minute and 20 seconds faster than her only other 6k of the year.
After the Gosser twins was a Principia runner with Sarah Rhoads the fourth Griffin across the line. Rounding out Fontbonne's team scoring was Jaylah Jones with Tejash Patel rounding out the event.
For the men, Austin Lawrence crossed the finish line before Chris Graham. Lawrence finished in 48th place with a time of 34:32.52, which was faster than his first collegiate race which also happened to be 3k shorter.
Graham finished in a time of 36:56.53, which was faster than his personal best in the Univerrsity of Evansville race two weeks ago.
Both Stare and Graham were named to the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
Both the men's and women's teams will train the next two weeks in preparation of for the NCAA Midwest Regional Cross Country Championship in Oshkosh, Wis.
