Women's And Men's Cross Country Have Strong Showing At SLIAC Championship
LITCHFIELD, Ill.—The Fontbonne University cross country teams closed out its season today at the SLIAC Championship with the women finishing in fourth, while the men closed out in fifth.
LITCHFIELD, Ill.—The Fontbonne University cross country teams closed out its season today at the SLIAC Championship with the women finishing in fourth, while the men closed out in fifth.
On the women's side, the Webster Gorloks took home the team title with 30 points edging out Greenville who ended with 35. Principia finished in third place with 69 points.
The fourth place finish for Fontbonne was its first team score since 2019 and its best since 2012 when they ended in third place.
Individually, Kyanne Williams (Webster) won with a time of 23:24.08. Teammate Danielle Schultz was right on her heels at 23:39.04.
Desiree Brooks led Fontbonne finishing in 17th place with a time of 27:41.42. Patience Vandermierden, Madelyn Huffstetter, Holly Pearce, and Rachel Kelly joined up with Brooks in the final meet of the season.
Vandermierden, who was on the cross country team in 2019, ended in 19th place at 29:16.00. Huffstetter and Kelly finished back-to-back with Huffstetter crossing at 34:26.58, while Kelly ended at 34:33.37. Pearce ended the day with a time of 44:31.50.
On the men's side, the Greenville Panthers won its sixth straight SLIAC Championship totaling 23 points. Webster ended in second, while Principia finished in third. The fifth place finish for Fontbonne was its best since 2011.
Gianni Estrada cruised to victory for Greenville with a time of 25:58.94. Cameron Clemons set a personal-record crossing at 33:15.90. KeYonn Hall-Baker just missed out on a personal-record finishing at 34:04.90.
Brandon Schmiedeskamp joined Clemons with a personal-record of his own timing out at 36:25.53. Ian Cordell was just 9.0 seconds off his personal-record closing out at 37:34.79. Ryan Augustin became the third Griffin with a personal-record time of 37:52.70.
